ACCI Member, Esther Eghobamien-Mshelia Elected into UN Committee on CEDAW

Esther Eghobamien-Mshelia, a member of the Abuja Chamber of Commerce and Industry (ACCI), has been chosen to represent Nigeria on the Convention on the Elimination of All Forms of Discrimination Against Women (CEDAW) Committee, according to a release from the Federal Ministry of Women Affairs and Social Development (FWASD).

One of the 12 members chosen by state parties to serve on the committee on the elimination of discrimination against women to replace those whose terms are set to expire on December 31, 2022, is Mrs. Eghobamien-Mshelia, the founder of Women Arise Development Initiative (WADHI).

The terms of the newly elected members would begin on January 1, 2023, and end on December 31, 2026, after a four-year period.

The Minister FMWASD, Mrs. Pauline Tallen, who made the announcement, thanked President Muhammadu Buhari for his unwavering support throughout the entire process and praised the Ministers of State for Foreign Affairs, Amb. Zubairu Dada and Geoffrey Onyema, as well as their teams, for their contributions and helpful advice.

In addition to congratulating Mrs. Eghobamien-Mshelia on her selection to the CEDAW committee, Mrs. Tallen said that she has no doubt that Mrs. Eghobamien-Mshelia will carry the flag of Nigeria high and will make us proud of her in the future.

The Minister praised the roles played by the Director-General of ACCI, Dr. Victoria Akai, and the Managing Director of the Bank of Industry, Mr. Olukayode Pitan, for their significant contributions to the accomplishment of the mandate.
