Nigerian and Nigerien troops from the Multinational Joint Task Force and Operation Hadin Kai have destroyed ten identified Boko Haram settlements in the North East and Lake Chad Basin.
The troops cleared Boko Haram settlements at Grada, Daban Gajere, Kwatan Maishayi, Daban Karfe, Tumbun Buhari, and Tunbun Abuja during the operation, which began on May 17 in Monguno.
The Chief of Military Public Information, Lt. Col. Kamarudeen Adegoke, confirmed this in a statement.
Boko Haram fled the cleared enclaves to avoid being killed by the troops, according to Adegoke, because no contact was made with the terrorists during the operation.
Troops were able to recover some items in the cleared settlements, including assorted grains, packed fish in cartons, household items, and a motorcycle, he said.
The enemy camps, he claims, were destroyed, and the items were properly burned.
He said about 30 young men claiming to be fishermen and farmers were arrested in the Doron Naira area, and that they are being profiled and interrogated to determine their guilt or innocence.
