Soldiers Arrest Enugu Community Youths in the Pursuit

Residents of the Akpawfu community in Enugu State’s Nkanu East Local Government Area have fled their homes following an operation by Nigerian Army and other security forces.

The joint security agents stormed the community after it was reported that several police officers were killed Wednesday evening by unknown gunmen in Enugu South’s Amaechi axis.

According to a source in Akpawfu, the gunmen who attacked the checkpoints entered the community from nearby Akpugo, and one of their Hilux vans somersaulted near St Philip Catholic Church in Akpawfu.

According to a village source, this must have informed the military’s belief that the gunmen were camped in Akpawfu.

According to the source, the soldiers entered the community early in the morning, searching house to house and arresting dozens of youths.

According to reports, the soldiers arrived in four armoured vehicles and other operational vehicles stationed in strategic locations throughout the community, most notably Agudene village.

According to community sources, there is a mass exodus of residents, particularly youths.

According to a village source who spoke to Daily Post on the condition of anonymity, “as I speak with you, all young men and even women in the community have fled the community after soldiers claimed that the houses being searched were being used as camping grounds by the gunmen.”

“I’m not sure that’s true for me. What I do know is that the gunmen passed through our community on their way to Abakaliki. Our youth are fleeing to other towns, fearful that the army will view them as targets.”
