Ex-President Yar’Adua’s son allegedly crushes four people to death and is imprisoned in Yola

Aminu Yar’Adua, 36, the son of late former President Umaru Yar’Adua, was remanded in prison yesterday by a Magistrate’s Court in Yola for allegedly killing four people in an auto accident in Yola, Adamawa State.

According to the Nigerian News Agency (NAN), Yar’Adua, a student at the American University of Nigeria in Yola, was charged in court on June 23, 2021, with causing death by dangerous driving.

According to the prosecutor’s First Information Report (FIR) presented in court by Inspector Zakka Musa, the accused ran over six people while driving along the Yola bye-pass in June.

The victims were all from Sabon Pegi, Yola South Local Government Area of the state, and four were killed and two were injured in the accident, according to the court.

According to the FIR, those killed in the accident were Aisha Umar (30), Aisha Mamadu (32), Suleiman Abubakar (2), and Jummai Abubakar (30), while Rejoice Annu (28) and Hajara Aliyu (27) were injured.

The prosecuting officer told the court that the late Aisha Umar’s relatives, Suleiman Abubakar and Jummai Abubakar, had demanded N15 million in compensation from the defendant.

When the FIR was read to the defendant, as the prosecutor had requested, he denied committing the crime and described the allegation as false.

The prosecutor then requested that the case be adjourned so that he could duplicate the case file and send it to the Department of Public Prosecutions for legal advice.

The Magistrate, Jummai Ibrahim, granted the prosecution’s request and continued the case until August 19, 2021, with the ex-son president’s being remanded in prison custody until then.
