According to reports, the gunmen also set fire to vehicles on the premises.
After a tense gunfight, an Inspector and three of the attackers were killed. Mike Abattam, a police spokesperson for the state police command, said the incident occurred at 11:35 p.m. on Thursday.
“At around 21:35 hours on August 5, armed bandits attacked and threw explosives and petrol bombs on top of the roof of the Orsu Police Station, causing the roof to collapse and a fire to spread throughout the station, affecting some of the vehicles parked in the parking lot. On the ground, the command’s tactical teams engaged the bandits in a gunfight.”
“And the bandits were apprehended thanks to the police’s superior firepower. Three of the bandits were apprehended and their weapons, including a pump action gun and two locally made double barrel pistols, were recovered, while the others fled into the bush, bullet wounds. Unfortunately, one of the police officers was killed in the attack.”
“In the meantime, the command is using this medium to appeal to the good people of Imo State, particularly the Orsu community, to assist the police with credible information that will lead to the arrest of the escaped bandits, as well as to report anyone seen with or treating bullet wounds to the nearest police station. In addition, hospitals should ensure that anyone seeking treatment for bullet wounds is reported to them.”
