n Cote d’Ivoire, a new Ebola case has been confirmed


.The Ebola virus has been found in an 18-year-old Guinean lady in Abidjan, according to the Health Ministry of Cote d’Ivoire.

According to a press release from Health Minister Pierre Dimba, the Pasteur Institute of Cote d’Ivoire investigated the woman’s blood sample collected on Friday and informed local health authorities of the positive case on Saturday.

Mr Dimba said the woman arrived in Abidjan on Wednesday by vehicle from the Guinean city of Labe, and that she was “diagnosed and taken care of immediately” by health services on Thursday.

“This is an isolated and imported case,” the minister stated, adding that the patient is being quarantined at the University Hospital Centre of Treichville in Abidjan’s epidemic disease treatment center.

Mr Dimba assured citizens that the government is using “all steps that have been effectively tested in the past” to control the sickness.

Mr Dimba stated that the government will push vaccination of frontline health staff, patient’s direct contacts, and security forces at entry points.

The participants decided to reinvigorate community event-based surveillance for Ebola and boost cross-border engagement with Guinea during an emergency inter-ministerial meeting conducted on Saturday under the auspices of Prime Minister Patrick Achi.

Guinea confirmed a new Ebola outbreak in Gouecke, a sub-prefecture in the Nzerekore Prefecture, on February 14. In the Democratic Republic of Congo’s North Kivu province, there have been new cases of Ebola.


The West African Ebola virus outbreak, which mostly affected Guinea, Liberia, and Sierra Leone from 2014 to 2016, claimed over 11,300 fatalities and resulted in over 28,600 cases.
