Obasanjo: I’ve been managing diabetes for 35 years

Former President Olusegun Obasanjo has been battling diabetes for over 35 years, according to him.

Obasanjo, who made the announcement at the Ogun State Diabetes Youth Development Camp in Abeokuta yesterday, claimed, however, that he has successfully managed the disease, which has claimed the lives of 1.5 million people worldwide as of 2019.

“I’m still doing many things that many people my age can’t do,” he said. A number of my friends have died since I was diagnosed with diabetes, and the reason for their deaths is that they did not manage their diabetes properly.

Obasanjo emphasized that the disease has no cure and can only be effectively managed by leading a healthy lifestyle.

“There is no cure for diabetes,” the ex-President continued. “Perhaps there will be a cure before I die, but I pray that there will be a cure before you die.”

“Don’t forget to take your medications, in your case, your insulin injection. I carry my medications with me wherever I go, and I monitor my blood sugar levels on a regular basis. Don’t let anyone scare you; diabetes has no cure at the moment, but it can be managed.”
