The Emir of Argungu, Alhaji Muhammad Samaila Mera, has requested that the British Government return some of the historic artifacts taken from the Kabi Kingdom during the colonial era.

The appeal was made by the Royal father during a meeting with British High Commissioner to Nigeria Cantriona Laing at his palace in Argungu.

The Emir explained that some of the old artifacts went missing during the kingdom’s colonial rule.

‘I appeal to the British Government to please assist us in returning all of our missing artifacts to Kabi Royal Palace,’ he said.

The Emir, who was represented by the High Chief of the Argungu Emirate Council, Alhaji Ibrahim Hassan, commiserated with the British government on Queen Elizabeth’s death.

He stated that the history of Nigeria would be incomplete if the role of the United Kingdom was not mentioned.

Catriona Laing, the British High Commissioner, appreciated the warm welcome she and her team received at the Emir’s Palace.

She explained that Governor Atiku Bagudu had told her a lot about the state, particularly about the Argungu Fishing Festival, economic history, and how the state was united by the peculiarity of having four emirates.

The commissioner also went to Kanta Museum and Fulani Ruga, where she was shown around the people’s rich cultural heritage.

She also went to Wacot Rice Mill in Argungu and spoke with the company’s management and employees.
