Bandits kidnap journalist in Zamfara

Comrade Idris Haruna Magami, a journalist with the Zamfara State Radio and Television Service in Gusau, was kidnapped.

Magami was kidnapped on the Gusau-Dansadau route on Wednesday after closing hours, according to eyewitnesses.

Comrade Magami is a well-known journalist with Zamfara Radio and Television Service and the host of “Su duniya manya,” a weekly Hausa phone-in show.

“Idris Haruna Magami was heading to his homeland with his companion, Alhaji Kabiru, when their vehicle was attacked by bandits,” according to Malam Almu, a resident of Magami village.

Their vehicle summersaulted and landed in a ditch, he added.

Alhaji Kabiru managed to flee, while Idris Magami was kidnapped by the bandits and brought to an unknown location, according to Almu.

The bandits, he claims, have already informed Idris Haruna’s family, but have yet to reveal the amount demanded as ransom.

All attempts to contact the State Police spokesman, SP Mohammed Shehu, were unsuccessful because his phone number was disconnected.
