Russia to deliver nuclear-capable missiles to Belarus, upgrade fighter jets


Russia has promised Belarus that it will receive Iskander-M missiles with nuclear capability.

Russian armoured columns sent from Belarus to invade Ukraine on February 24 were among the weapons used.

In Kaliningrad, a tiny Russian Baltic territory situated between NATO members Lithuania and Poland, Iskander missiles have previously been stationed. They have a 500km maximum range (300 miles).

When he met with his Belarusian ally Alexander Lukashenko on Saturday in St. Petersburg, Russian President Vladimir Putin made the pledge.

According to Russian RBC news, Putin promised to give Belarus tactical Iskander-M missile complexes in the coming months, which can fire ballistic and cruise missiles of both conventional and nuclear types.

The president of Belarus also requested that Russia equip his nation’s warplanes with nuclear weapons, and the Russian president further pledged to upgrade Belarus’ Su-25 fighter jets in response.

On Saturday, Russian cruise missiles were also launched from ships in the Black Sea, according to the Ukrainian military.

A significant rocket attack on Desna, a village north of Chernihiv, was also reported by Ukraine.
